2001 Miles in a Model A Ford - June 14-25, 2001

From Colorado to Texas
by Jo Moss

The return trip started early on a cold June 23 with Vag-A-Bon club members Al and Mary Allison joining the team for the return trip. We made our first return stop in Garden City, Kansas.

Oklahoma state line and heading to Texas
We stopped at the state line between Kansas and Oklahoma for photos.

Our team crossing into Texas
And stopped again at the Texas state line. Al and Mary Allison, Lyle, Pam, and Cody Meek, Mark Moss, Rebecca Jordan and Max Phillips all back on Texas soil. We spent the night in Childress, Texas, before our final destination home.

With few problems -- a cracked distributor cap, flat tire, faulty starter, shaky shims, overheating and some loose accessories -- the fun outweighed problems.

A challenging event such as the High Country Tour is a test of vehicle and individual endurance of both hot Texas roads and the mile-high plus elevations of Colorado’s High Country. The challenge is only part of the "adventure" – the magic comes from the reactions of people who marvel at the cars and the nature of the longer tours. It also comes from the opportunity to enjoy a special hobby and to share that enjoyment with people of similar interests.
