Model A Ford Club to be formed in Georgetown on September 26

By Fred Carlton
September 1993

An organizational meeting will be held to form a new Model A Ford Club in Georgetown and YOU are invited to attend.

Date: Sunday, September 26

Time: 2:00 PM.

Place: (address in Georgetown, Texas)

We have identified over 50 66 Model A Ford owners in the immediate area and would like to host an organizational meeting to form a Chapter of the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA).

What is MAFCA? It's 15,500 Model A lovers/owners who have joined together in all 50 states and 28 foreign countries. It is the largest car club in the world devoted to one make of automobile. Founded in 1955, MAFCA is a non-profit historical society dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the Model A Ford automobile as originally manufactured in 1928-1931. It provides restoration information to its member through a bimonthly publication, The Restorer, as well as promoting family activities, fellowship among Model A owners, and technical help on restoring your Model A.

Friendships, technical help n working on your car, family activities, tours, road rallies, etc. are just some of the benefits of becoming involved in a local Chapter of MAFCA.

  • Paul Ranney, a retired printing executive who moved to Georgetown two years ago and owns three Model A's. Paul has been a member of the Dallas Model A Ford Club and MAFCA for over four years.

  • Fred Carlton, who recently moved to Georgetown, is a 21-year member of both the Dallas Model A Ford Club and MAFCA. Fred has served as the editor of the Restorer magazine for five years and owns four Model A's.

Both Paul and Fred have enjoyed the benefits of membership in an active local club (the Dallas Chapter Club in Texas has over 250 families and is the largest Model A Ford Club in Texas). Monthly meetings include technical programs on everything from rebuilding an engine to repainting, upholstery, body work, carburetor repair, or merely getting a healthy AH-OOO-GA out of that Sparton horn ... just about anything you'd ever want to know about restoring and driving a Model A Ford.

We have benefited from association with people from all professions, airline pilots to doctors, mechanics to mailmen - all with a common interest ... the Model A Ford, and through this association have developed some of the best friendships in the world!

We invite you to come and hear what we have in store for model A owners in this area. You are under no obligation to join but we do ask that you do a few things:

  • bring your spouse (kids welcome)

  • bring a friend who likes Model A's

  • bring a lawn chair

  • bring your Model A - if your A is not drivable, then drive your modern car!

We'll kick some tires, get to know each other and have some refreshments.

(Directions and phone numbers followed.)
